Community
Flinders Ports is committed to supporting the local communities where we operate.
At Flinders Ports, stakeholder engagement is essential for our day-to-day operations as well as our larger, development projects. Our parent company Flinders Port Holdings coordinates an extensive program of community sponsorships across South Australia.
“At Flinders Ports we are mindful of our place in the port communities, not only as an employer and corporate citizen, but also as an environmental custodian for future generations,”
Stewart Lammin, Chief Executive Officer, Flinders Port Holdings.

Flinders Port Holdings sponsors many great community organisations, here is a snapshot:
Clontarf Foundation
Flinders Port Holdings is a proud sponsor of Clontarf Foundation.
The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and by doing so equips them to participate more meaningfully in society.
The Clontarf Foundation commenced in 2000 with a single academy located at the Clontarf Aboriginal College in Waterford, WA. The programme catered for 25 students and was operated by two staff members, including founder and current CEO Gerard Neesham.
More than 20 years on, the Foundation operates 131 academies in WA, NT, QLD, NSW, VIC and SA, supports more than 10,000 participants and employs over 500 dedicated staff members.
Flinders Port Holdings is proud to celebrate the beginning of this partnership with Clontarf Foundation in 2021.
One and All Tall Ship
Flinders Port Holdings is a proud sponsor of The One and All Tall Ship.
STV One and All was built by W.G. Porter & Son Pty Ltd at North Haven South Australia with the assistance of a team of enthusiastic volunteers and was commissioned on 5 April 1987. Although it is based on the original rig of an l850’s brigantine, One and All is not a replica. It is made of timber and has been built to the modern standards required by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
One and All is owned by the South Australian Government for and on behalf of the people of South Australia.
Flinders Port Holdings has been sponsoring One and All since 2014 and in 2017, the company sponsored three historic voyages to mark this remarkable vessel’s 30th birthday.
South Australian Maritime Museum
Flinders Port Holdings, the ports division of Flinders Port Holdings has a proud partnership with the South Australian Maritime Museum, which spans more than 14 years.
It was back in 2002 that Flinders Port Holdings first provided funding for an exhibition and this enabled the Museum to secure a development grant from the Commonwealth Government.
The much needed finance enabled the Museum to re-invent itself, bringing maritime history to a 21st century audience. Today Flinders Port Holdings supports the Museum in delivering high quality exhibitions that engage audiences, and the extremely successful schools program, which has benefited more than 7000 students since 2008.
In 2017 and 2018, Flinders Port Holdings sponsored the ‘Leviathan’ exhibition that was a close look into the science of whales in their environment and the astonishing history of whales and humans.
Youth Travel Grant Scheme for Port Lincoln & Eyre Peninsula
Flinders Port Holdings funds a travel grant scheme for families with children living in Port Lincoln and the Eyre Peninsula.
The purpose of the scheme is to help families with the cost of travel, so that their children can participate in sporting and educational activities. Administered through the office of MP for Flinders, Hon. Peter Treloar, the scheme has been assisting families from the Eyre Peninsula since 2005.

Safe on the Water
Be responsible. Be aware. Be seen.
With boating season underway, Flinders Ports reminds boaties to stay safe on the water. The aim is to ensure South Australians can enjoy getting out on the water safely and without obstructing the region’s busy shipping channels.
While fishing is welcomed on the Port River in Adelaide, small boats should keep well clear of the Port River channel and its approaches when large ships are manoeuvring. This same rule applies for the smaller regional ports dotted up and down our coastline.
Ships that are 300 metres long, weighing over 100,000 tonnes are now common around Port Adelaide. Fishing in and around the vicinity of these massive ships can have many hidden dangers, and it is important you know your responsibilities and do not become complacent when out on the water. There are some simple things that you can do to stay safe on the water.
Following these rules will ensure that fishing and commercial shipping can carry on side-by-side throughout our boating season. Happy fishing and boating!
Be aware of your responsibilities.
You can get an online copy of the South Australian Recreational Boating and Safety Handbook by visiting www.marinesafety.sa.gov.au. You can also download a fact sheet from www.flindersports.com.au/safeonthewater for information on staying safe on the water around Port Adelaide.
Know who is about.
Before you head out on the water, start by visiting Flinders Ports’ mobile phone and tablet-friendly website, www.portmis.flindersports.com.au, to check out the shipping schedule. This has the latest information on shipping movements and port rules in and around Flinders Ports’ South Australian ports.
Never anchor in a shipping channel.
It is illegal and extremely dangerous. Small boats should also avoid sailing in a channel and its approaches when large vessels are using that channel. It is often impossible for big ships to stop or change course to avoid a small boat. Big ships need deep water to navigate safely and must maintain speed to be able to steer. Appearances can be deceptive too. Large vessels are often travelling far faster than they seem to be.
Never assume you have been seen.
The bridge of a large ship can be over 100 metres away from the bow. Her blind spot span up to one kilometre in front of the ship, so just because you have spotted a big vessel, never assume that her crew has seen your fishing boat. If you are out on the water at night or when visibility is poor, always switch on your navigation lights.
